Course content
Presumed competencies: The Qualitative Research course focuses on methods of data gathering and on descriptive and explanatory levels of data analysis. The course will provide an understanding of research issues in qualitative research methods that can be used in master thesis work and in research projects. Aims of the subject / students will be able to: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will demonstrate the ability to: Articulate the key features and benefits of qualitative research and when and how it can be utilized. Assess the applicability of a range of core qualitative approaches to their own research topics and understand how these approaches can be applied to conduct effective research. Basic themes: Part 1: 1. Introducing Qualitative research. 2. Methodology and methods. Part 2: 1. Action Research. 2. Discourse Analysis. 3. Critical Ethnography. 4. Grounded Theory. 5. Historical Research. 6. Narrative Research. 7. Phenomenology. Part 3: 1. Proposing Your Research. 2. Quality in Qualitative Research.
