Course content
Basic topics: -Basic notions of the educational evaluation (including quality and effectiveness), description and principles of the development of generations of evaluation. -The role and purpose of evaluation in the social system and its subsystems. Local, national and international levels of evaluation. Roles and models of evaluation in the functioning of individual organizations. The relation between evaluation and research. Types of evaluation based on the results of education and administrative data (Institute for Information in Education: performance and economic indicators, information about workers and wage funds), systematic work with feedback (autoevaluation of the school), evaluation of programmes and teachers (human resources). -Old and new challenges to evaluation at schools. Evaluation as an instrument of planning and management. -Evaluation process and its stages, setting goals and criteria. The principle of construction of evaluation methods, instruments and practices in selected situations, differences in their use in evaluation and research. -Ethics of evaluation process; evaluation of results and outcomes of the process of education. -...following content is available at the guarantor?s of the subject

Learning outcomes
Aims of the course/the students will be able to: -explain the concept of educational evaluation, the specifics of the discipline, and characterize contemporary opinions, approaches and trends in educational evaluation in the Czech Republic and abroad, -explain the significance of educational evaluation for the work of school and school system, its relations with the quality and effectiveness of education, -give examples and explain the current and potential contribution of national and international evaluation researches, explain the relation of evaluation and research activities, -explain the principle of construction and asses the suitability of using evaluation methods, instruments and practices in selected situations, characterize the differences in using the methods in the evaluation and in research and in all aspects (i.e. including the processing and interpretation of data), -suggest an evaluation scheme for a selected situation, to design some evaluation instruments, -explain the principles of selected models of quality management used in the school system and their relations to the educational evaluation, -explain the concept and basic terms and current issues of school management, -with the support of the theory of general management and in the context of national and European educational policy, explain the development and current trends in school management in our country and abroad, -give examples of current theoretical and practical challenges of school management in European context, - ....(following aims are available at the guarantor?s of the subject)

Prerequisites
Completion of the following subjects: Theory and Methodology of Science, Psychological aspects of education, Curriculum theory and teaching.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

The prerequisite for taking the exam is preparing and submitting a portfolio comprising: -a suggested evaluation scheme for a selected situation of an educational institution, organization, including the recommended suitable evaluation instrument, -analysis of the system of management of a selected organization focusing on education and teaching (case study), -a scientific paper reflecting the relation of the dissertation with the elective course.
