Course content
|
<LI> 1. Ethopedics and its concept in the system of special education, the subject of ethopedics, differences between ethopedics and other special education disciplines. The relationship between ethopedics and social pedagogy. <LI> 2. Terminology of ethopedics, its development, differences in Czech terminology, current trends. <LI> 3. Protection of children and youth. Procedures in case of suspicion of a threat to the development of a child. The role of OSPOD and other institutions in child protection. Key documents: Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms in relation to the protection of children and youth, Convention on the Rights of the Child, Civil Code (Chapter on Family). <LI> 4. Historical development in approaches to behavioral disorders and their solutions, significant personalities. <LI> 5. Characteristics of a child (pupil) with behavioral problems and behavioral disorders. Specifics of manifestations, possibilities of intervention and pedagogical work. <LI> 6. Hyperkinetic behavioral disorders - ADD, ADHD. Basic rules of intervention and assistance to the pupil. <LI> 7. Behavioral disorders associated with conflict (dissocial disorders) - disruption, oppositional behavior (development of relationship to authority, development of morality), indiscipline, disobedience. <LI> 8. Asocial behavioral disorders, disruption of social norms in the child's value system. Truancy, lying, theft, bullying, aggression and other asocial behavioral disorders. <LI> 9. Family as a risk factor for problem behavior. Social environment, its influence on the emergence and development of behavioral disorders and its importance for behavior modification. <LI> 10. Integration/inclusion of an individual with a disadvantage (behavioral disorder) as a prevention of disruption of his social behavior and social ties. <LI> 11. Education of children with behavioral disorders. Outline of school legal norms in relation to the education of children with behavioral disorders. Education of students with behavioral disorders within regular and special schools. Behavioral disorders prevention and counseling options. <LI> 12. Institute of alternative family care; system of school facilities for institutional and protective education. <LI> 13. Criminal proceedings in juvenile matters. Educational, protective, penal measures. Act No. 218/2003 on juvenile justice. <LI> 14. Mediation and probation - definition, mission. Alternative punishment. Activities of the mediation and probation service. Cooperating institutions. <LI> 15. Execution of custody and imprisonment. Types of prisons, special departments. Prisons for juveniles. Treatment program. Penitentiary and post-penitentiary pedagogy.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the course is to define and introduce ethopedics as a pedagogical discipline on the border between special and social pedagogy, dealing with the upbringing and education of individuals with behavioral and emotional disorders. It guides students in orientation in the issues of approaches to individuals with behavioral disorders, understanding the possibilities of their reeducation and prevention of behavioral disorders, and orientation in the system of professional workplaces in relation to students with behavioral disorders.
After completing the course, students should be able to: <LI> understand the issues of approaches to individuals with behavioral disorders; <LI> know the possibilities of re-education of individuals with behavioral disorders and prevention of behavioral disorders; <LI> understand the system of professional workplaces in relation to children with behavioral disorders.

Prerequisites
|
The prerequisite for enrolling in the course is studying in the Social Pedagogy study program, specialization Prevention of Socially Pathological Phenomena.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Seminar Work
Requirements for completing the course: <LI> Review of a selected book with an ethological focus (see the list in the lesson, or individual choice after consultation with the teachers). Minimum length: 2 pages (line spacing 1, font 12). Deadline: see the syllabus in Moodle. <LI> Professional reflection on a visit to ethological facilities (based on a real visit as part of the lesson). Minimum length: 1 page per facility (as a basis for discussion in the seminar). <LI> Exam passing - demonstration of orientation in the scope of the course syllabus (oral exam).
