The aim of the course is to introduce students to the relationship between politics and financial markets. A number of social science graduates work in investment and analytical companies, where their goal is to evaluate the risks of investments. These are often related to the international political situation, the domestic politics of the given country and the political decisions of the actors. The course will focus on the fundamental aspects of financial markets and investments. The course is divided into several thematic blocks: 1) The functioning of stock exchanges and access to them (NYSE, Prague Stock Exchange, Frankfurt, etc.). The issue of stock market indices (DJIA, S&P 500, NASDAQ, NIKKEI, DAX, etc.). 2) The phenomenon of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). 3) The role of central banks in the economy. 4) Political factors affecting financial markets. 5) "Democratization of investing" and "retail investors". The student will acquire competences for self-assessment of investment risks and instruments based on political factors and variables.
