Learning outcomes
The course Diplomacy: development, approaches, practice introduces students to key aspects of the field of diplomacy. The course aims to clarify for students the foundations of the sub-discipline, conceptual and theoretical approaches, as well as the present in the context of a developmental and theoretical framework. The first part of the course focuses mainly on clarifying the terminological and theoretical-conceptual foundations of the field, and selected significant case studies from the historical development of diplomacy are also included. The second main block of lectures focuses on the practice and specifics of Russian diplomacy. The issues of diplomacy (the areas of representation, communication and especially ritualization) are further developed in the follow-up course Diplomatic Protocol and Etiquette.
