Learning activities and teaching methods
Lecture, Dialogic Lecture (Discussion, Dialog, Brainstorming), Work with Text (with Book, Textbook)
Learning outcomes
The course is designed as a theoretical introduction to empirical research methodology for M.A. students. It overviews fundamental concepts, methods used in empirical research and statistical tools, all of which is useful for students' own projects, both in quantitative and qualitative research. The theory covered in the course will later be built on in Quantitative linguistics and Linguistic experiment.
Students will be well-equipped with theoretical knowledge, which is necessary to carry out a full-fledged research project. They will be able to distinguish between quantitative and qualitative research and choose/apply the most appropriate methods accordingly. They will get familiar with the basics of statistical evaluation of an experiment and be able, to an extent, use the basic tools in their own projects.
