The key topics of the course include: theoretical reflection on popular music in the Czech Lands Frankfurt School (T. W. Adorno) The Birmingham School (Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies) New Musicology and Popular Music Studies (IASPM) specific trends after 1990 (sociology vs. musicology, analysis of rock, exploration of popular music outside the Anglophone environment, Jazz Studies, projects, etc.) Eastern European musicology of popular music

The course focuses on the exploration of the development of theoretical reflection on popular music in the domestic and international context.
Students will gain a basic understanding of the development of theoretical reflection on popular music in a broader cultural and cultural-political context, in the context of musicology, etc. |

Assessment methods and criteria |
Student performance
--thorough knowledge of the literature and the issues with which the student is introduced during the course --completion of the assigned tasks (good level of content and form) --student prepares and presents a paper on the assigned scientific study (length 25 min., text and pp of the presentation, possible use of music samples, etc.; in particular, the focus should be on methodology, theoretical approaches applied, their background, etc.) --in addition to the paper, the student will regularly submit brief written reflections on the texts discussed via Moodle --resulting grade will be based on the quality of the assignments prepared and presented --activity and discussion during classes is also evaluated --if the student does not submit and present the assigned tasks within the given deadlines, he/she will not receive the attestation |
