Learning outcomes
Methodology of Musicology is the subject of the State Final Exam that examines knowledge and skills of a student of the Master study program in Musicology.
Student has knowledge of the methodology of musicology and is able to apply his education in practise. Passing the State Final Exam is a necessary condition for graduation and is a part of the final exams for obtaining university education in Musicology program.
Prerequisites
Successful completion of a respective study block and gaining all required partial attestations.

Assessment methods and criteria
Oral exam

The subject of the State Final Exam, its detailed topics are available at the Department of Musicology?s website. Individual home preparation is expected. 1) Theory of science (the concept by Kuhn, Popper, Kvasz, Lakatos, post-positivism, post-modernist approach) 2) Taxonomy of Art 3) Phenomenon of Musical Work 4) Impulses for musicology from the area of semiotics, general linguistics, and communication theory. 5) Paradigmatic innovation of the musical-scientific thinking in the 20th century (application of phenomenology, structuralism, post-structuralism) 6) Musical culture and society (reception of music, aesthetics as a program, mass media, political determination, phenomenon of revolution) 7) Methodological aspects of the musical analysis (traditional approaches vs. Schenker?s analysis, Forte?s analysis) 8) Psychological musical research 9) Sociological musical research 10) Dahlhaus? method of historiographical research 11) Inductive method of historiographical research (Karl Popper)
