Course content
|
1. The subject matter, the interdisciplinary links and methods of music psychology. 2. The development of musicality and methods of its detection (tests of musical abilities). 3. Music therapy. 4. The artificial/non-artificial music diversification, the development of this diversification (other diversifying concepts), the main features of both spheres, terminological issues. The stratification of the non-artificial music sphere (various sub-spheres, other subdivisions, especially in the jazz music department). 5. African-American musical folklore (the main characteristics and division of the roots of the jazz music department) and jazz. Jazz as the backbone of the modern popular music development, the temporal layout and the historiographical overview (individual styles, personalities and subjects, a list of music characteristics). 6. The authenticity as the key aesthetic category of popular music (comparison of already existing theoretical concepts: Moore, Frith i.a.; the issue of rock and pop performances evaluation on the basis of the genre or the style, to which they belong, or on the basis of cultural/sub-cultural identity of their creators; pop music as a political phenomenon; rock ideology, etc.). 7. Bedřich Smetana and the opening process of the Czech National Theatre. 8. Antonín Dvořák and the internationally renowned Czech music of the 19th Century. 9. Inspirations for Leoš Janáček (folklore, verism, impressionism, russophilism and notable personalities in the life of L. Janáček). 10. Avant-garde movement between the wars and the works of Bohuslav Martinů.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the history and theory of music final exam is to demonstrate a deeper understanding of the art scientific studies in musicology on the part of the students.
Students are then prepared for the specialized study of musicology in their Master degree studies.
