Course content
1. Origin and Development of Music Sociology, Methodological Problems I. - general sociology - the origin of the science, the development, thematic areas, figures - empirical and theoretical sociology - the constitution of music sociology - problem areas of music sociology - the problem of a sociological analysis of a music work 2. Origin and Development of Music Sociology, Methodological Problems II. - Max Weber. Weber's ideal types and typology in music sociology, the problem of assessment and value neutrality - other classics of music sociology (T. W. Adorno, J. H. Mueller, Alphons Silbermann, K. Blaukopf, Christian Kaden, J. Shepherd, Ch. Kaden) - sociology of tone systems - Czech music sociology 3. Learning outcomes
The course focuses on terminology, theoretical concepts, techniques and methods of music sociological research. Attention will be also paid to interpretation of seminal texts and practical training.
Acquire knowledge: The student knows basic concepts of music sociology, its key texts and principles of musical-sociological empirical research. Acquired skills: The student: - is able to create a survey questionnaire for a musical-sociological research; - is capable of the practical application of techniques of the musical sociological research. Acquired qualifications: Knowledge of social structures of music life and its actors, or, the functioning of music institutions in different phases of the history of music, leads the student to a better understanding of the developmental process of music. A completion of the course significantly widens student's competences for next professional involvement in an organisation and management of music life.
