Course content
1. Periodization, characteristics of the literature. 2. The early Baroque and its succession to the high Renaissance period, main representatives 3. The Florentine Camerata, Claudio Monteverdi 4. French music in the 17th century 5. The development of music in Germany 6. Baroque music in Central Europe 7. Catholic church music 8. Italian opera seria 9. The specifics of the Baroque music in the Czech lands 10. J. S. Bach 11. G. F. Händel 12. Galant style

Learning outcomes
The mission of the lecture is to introduce to the students the stylistic and developmental trends in European music in the 17th and 18 century. The starting point is the religious and national division of Europe and its impact on the emergence of new stylish and different initiatives taken in the different parts of Europe.
Obtaining of the reliable orientation in the historic, stylish, functional, aesthetic and theoretical issues of music 17th and 18 century.
