Course content |
The State Final Exams, its detailed topics are available at the Department of Musicology?s website. Individual home preparation is expected. Passing the State Final Exam is a necessary condition for graduation. The State Final Exam has the form of an oral exam in music theory, history, aesthetics and methodology of musicology. At the Final State Exam, the candidate should demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the field of study, including deeper understanding of its historic, theoretical, aesthetical, systematic and methodological issues. Extra attention is paid to the ability of analytical approach to the discussed questions and critical work with the existing results of the researches in musicology. Oral Master Exam has the form of a discussion based on the drawn questions; the topics for the discussion should not have a direct relationship to the topic of the diploma thesis.

Music History and Theory are the content of the bachelor State Final Exam that examines knowledge and skills of a student of the bachelor program in Musicology.
A student masters history and theory of music and he is able to apply them in praxis. |

Assessment methods and criteria |
Oral exam
The State Final Exam, its detailed topics are available at the Department of Musicology?s website. Individual home preparation is expected. 1. Music History: Knowledge of the Czech and European music history in the full extent of its evolution. The ability to characterize individual evolutionary periods, demonstrate knowledge of life and work of its main representatives including knowledge of the style, type and genre areas of music. 2. Theory of Music: Sufficient knowledge of the basic theoretical disciplines is required, i.e. harmony, counterpoint, musical forms, fundamentals of instrumentation and reading of scores, and their application during an analysis of specific musical forms. The exam has a form of a verbal analysis of a drawn pair of examples of notes where the student should demonstrate his ability to orientate within the structure (macrostructure in general and microstructure in detail) of analysed works or parts, and characteristics of their ?musical language?, or more precisely the style. The selection of the musical compositions may be updated every year. |
