Learning outcomes
This tutorial focuses on the study and interpretation of media content in different formats such as text, image, sound and video. Learners will acquire various analytical tools and techniques to empirically examine not only media content but also the functioning of media in contemporary society and how media shape public opinion. Emphasis is placed on understanding how ... Learners are introduced to key qualitative and quantitative media analysis techniques and their individual steps such as content coding and data interpretation. In the course, learners conduct their own case studies to help apply theoretical knowledge to real-world examples from the media world and specific research questions. Graduates of the course gain the ability to critically evaluate and analyze media content not only in light of current media legislation, but also in light of the ethical dilemmas often associated with media operations. As part of the course, students will gain - basic knowledge of selected issues of social justice and social inequality - the ability to search for, update, reflect on and interpret knowledge in the field of media studies
