The course introduces sociology through selected topics. The student will understand selected basic sociological concepts and at a basic level will get acquainted with some issues of applied sociology. He will be provided with basic information about sociology, its approaches and the subject of interest. Main goals: To know and be able to explain with the help of general definitions and specific examples basic sociological concepts, theories and selected data on the discussed topics (verified by tests). Independently process a sociological search for an independently chosen topic relevant to the field of study (preliminarily verified during the presentation at seminars or during the control of the final submitted search). The course ends with a credit and an exam. Students receive credit for continuous work during the semester. The prerequisite for successful completion of the course is preparation for class (knowledge of the assigned text) and active discussion of the topic in the seminar part of the class. Readiness for the class can be randomly determined by written test at the beginning of the class. Students bring the assigned text with them to class, preferably in printed form. The course literature is chosen to be generally available in libraries or is Physical presence in class does not automatically mean that the requirements are met - in the case of student is not prepared, the instructor may assign make-up work as in the case of physical absence. Completion of such an assignment is mandatory for the student. The students participate in the content of the lessons by presenting the content of selected supplementary literature chosen according to their own interest (choice of topics will take place at the beginning of the semester so that all topics are covered). Each student is is part of a team that becomes the supervisor of one selected topic area to which presentation. The presentation should include key information from the assigned compulsory texts on the topic and additional information from the extension literature. Each learner shall, at the beginning of the semester The student will choose one such title to include in the class presentation. The presenting team must be able to answer additional questions from classmates and the instructor on the topic. A condition for taking the examination is obtaining credit (at the end of the teaching part of the semester). The examination is conducted in written form in the electronic learning system NEO. In order to pass the exam, a minimum of 65% of the total number of points must be obtained. In case the student has not completed the course and is enrolled in it repeatedly, he/she must again meet the requirements for both credit and the exam (unless otherwise agreed upon with the instructor at the beginning of the semester).
