Learning outcomes
The course introduces participants to the study of culture. In its broadest sense, the concept of culture expresses a specifically human way of organizing and realizing action objectified in material and mental artifacts. The course combines two approaches to culture. The first part of the semester introduces students to selected concepts in the field of cultural anthropology, and the second part of the semester introduces students to the themes, theories, and representatives of cultural studies. During the seminars, students will read and evaluate professional literature on the mentioned topics, thus deepening their knowledge of the issue and will cultivate their critical thinking.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

The course ends with a credit and an exam. Students receive credit for semester work. A prerequisite for successful completion of the course is preparation for the class (knowledge of the assigned texts) and active discussion of the topic in the seminar part of the class. Students bring the assigned text to class, preferably in printed form. The course literature is available in the UP library. Physical presence in the class does not automatically mean that the requirements are fulfilled - in case of unpreparedness of the student, the teacher may assign a substitute work just as in case of physical absence. Fulfilling such an assignment is mandatory for the student. The conditions for obtaining credit must be fulfilled before the beginning of the examination period, i.e. at the end of the teaching part of the semester, by 20.12.2024. The examination is conducted in written form in the electronic teaching system NEO. A minimum of 65% of the total score is required to pass the exam. The examination will be conducted in the form of a written test during the examination period (the student may request an oral form of examination). The content of the test will include information from required texts, lectures and presentations. The examination also tests the ability to reflect independently on a cultural artefact on the basis of acquired knowledge and correctly used terminology. In the event that the student has not completed the course, and is enrolled in it repeatedly, he/she must again meet the requirements set forth for credit and the examination (unless otherwise agreed upon with the instructor at the beginning of the semester).
