The course introduces participants to the principles of ethical discernment and action. It is a basic definition of the concepts of ethics of intercultural communication with a specific emphasis on understanding the history of intercultural dialogue. The course will introduce students to the background of communication of cultures, goals, criteria for ethical information sharing and dialogue; students will also understand concepts such as culture, religion, and values. The topic is studied in the context of the process of globalization, the clash of cultures, the creation of a culture of encounter, the process of secularization and deinstitutionalization of faith, and the plurality of cultures and religions. Course structure and core themes: 1. Definition of basic terms and definitions 2. Contemporary concepts of culture 3. Interculturality and possibilities of coexistence in a multicultural society 4. Ethical criteria for intercultural dialogue 5. Principles and forms of dialogue 6. Culture, values and dialogue of cultural values 7. Intercultural sharing in the paradigm of globalization 8. History of intercultural dialogue I 9. History of Intercultural Dialogue II 10. The practice of intercultural relations 11. The role of religion in the ethics of intercultural relations 12. Conflict and crisis in intercultural relations The content of the course will include, among other topics, interreligious dialogue: definition, context, objectives; history of interreligious dialogue: ancient, medieval and modern times; history of interreligious dialogue: 20. The 20th century; the problem of the concept of religion and spirituality; the influence of non-Christian religions on Christian spirituality and lifestyle; the limits of interreligious dialogue and conflict themes; analysis of selected case studies of cultural and religious communication conflicts; intercultural relations in the Czech Republic in the context of the EU.

The student organizes his/her studies based on the distance support, i.e. study materials and instructions in the LMS; he/she participates in the webinars and completes continuous short tests (approximately 4). Requirements for students: active participation in the class, completion of the final test, analysis of the text. An oral exam at the end of the semester will test the student's ability to speak with understanding about the topics covered, to interpret case studies appropriately, and to reflect on such open-ended issues.
