Course content
|
1. Basic concepts and principles: mass phenomenon, random sample, statistical induction, qualitative and quantitative attributes, absolute and relative frequency, bar graph, histogram. 2. Characteristics of location and variability, skewness and boxplot. 3. Normal distribution and how to check the assumption of normality, QQ-plot. 4. Two-dimensional data sets. 5. Correlation, Spearman's correlation coefficient. 6. Problems of mathematical statistics: estimation theory and hypothesis testing (overview). 7. Visualization and description of multidimensional data. 8. What is the distribution of my data? Overview of probability distributions and their use, practical consequences of the central limit theorem.

Oral exam, Written exam
Credit: the student has to pass written test (i.e. to obtain at least half of the possible points) and turn in individual homework. Exam: the student has to understand the subject.
