Course content
Introduction in the most important historical and present theories of education (Comenius, Herbart, Dewey etc.) . Main topics Theory of education from antics till renaissance Theory and philosophy of education of J. A. Comenius J. J. Rousseau and the beginning of educational pessimism Educational theories of early modern philosophers J. F. Herbart and the beginning of systematic pedagogy E. Fink and antinomies of education J. Dewey and educational pragmatism Theories of education in the context of philosophy of 1st half of 20th century Postmodernism and changes of understanding of education in the 2nd half of 20th century Theoretical questions of education in 21st century

Learning outcomes
Introduction into the most important historical and present theories of education.
Students will be able to understand key theoretical and philosophical approached to the education and upbringing and they will be competent to consider the impact of application each discussed theory when we would it practice.

No special prerequisities are required.

Oral exam, Didactic Test, Seminar Work

KSuccessful completion of the course requires a basic overview and orientation to educational theories and their implications for practice. Formulation of own views and perspectives on sub-theories in connection with their real-life application. The course content consists of lectures and self-study. Students are required to actively participate in seminars (absence for serious reasons will be duly excused, maximum absence is 2 seminars) and to complete the assignments that will be presented in the seminar. Learners will read works from a selected educational concept. Completion of the course is verified by an oral examination, which consists of a reflection on one's own reading (30% of the final grade) and demonstration of knowledge of the selected The list of topics for the exam is identical to the lecture topics listed in the Moodle system. For learners with an individual plan: - the above + written assignments in Moodle as a substitute for possible non-attendance at seminars.
