Course content
|
1. Introduction to working with families; family functions and typologies; family functioning. 2. Current trends in family life. 3. The family as a subject of scientific inquiry; key concepts in family psychology. 4. Major approaches to family therapy. 5. Possibilities and limitations of working with families from the perspective of a social pedagogue. 6. Virginia Satir's approach - theory and practice. 7. Family crises and approaches to working with them. Trauma and the family system (child abuse and neglect syndrome, domestic violence). Addiction in the family. 8. Selected approaches to working with families developed in the Czech Republic: "Rodina jako sociální děloha" and "Ostrov rodiny"; Family drawing and its potential uses.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the Work with the Family course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts of family psychology, the characteristics of family functioning, and selected approaches to working with families. Attention is also given to the possibilities and limitations of working with families from the perspective of a social pedagogue, including in challenging and crisis situations.
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to: - explain the basic concepts of family psychology, - characterize family functioning, - describe current changes in family life, - identify the basic principles of family therapy and distinguish between selected approaches, - assess the possibilities and limitations of a social pedagogue when working with families, - describe the manifestations and consequences of crisis, divorce, violence, CAN syndrome, deprivation, and other challenging situations within the family, - identify options for basic family support and cooperation with other professionals and services.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam
Course completion requirements: - Attendance at block teaching sessions is compulsory. - Students are required to complete a colloquium in which they demonstrate their understanding of the key thematic areas of the course. The thematic areas and further information on the format of the colloquium are provided in the course study materials in Moodle. Students with an Individual Study Plan (ISP): As part of their self-study, students are required to study the materials provided in the course study materials in Moodle and complete the assignment specified there. They then complete the colloquium.
