Course content
Perinatal loss. Understanding death in the context of child development. Grief in children and adolescents. Myths surrounding grief in children and adolescents. Communicating with children about death. Supporting adaptive grief in children and adolescents. Children's publications on the topics of dying, death, grief.

Learning outcomes
This course focuses on the complex topic of dying and death in the context of child development. The aim is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills for working with children who have encountered death or are approaching the end of life.
Understanding children's perceptions of death at different developmental stages. Knowledge of children's different reactions to death and dying. Acquisition of communication skills for conversations with children about death. Introduction to different approaches to supporting children and families during times of loss. Development of empathy and the ability to provide emotional support.

Assessment methods and criteria
Dialog

Recommended attendance at lectures, min. 80% attendance at seminars. Reviews of selected children's publications with topics - accompaniment, dying, death, loss, funeral rituals, counseling for survivors. Oral presentation within the colloquium.
