Course content |
1. Social workers' legitimacy for political engagement. 2. A conceptual framework for political engagement in social work (Gal and Weiss-Gal 2023) 3. Politics and public policy documents 4. Policy making at the state level. 5. Policy making at the municipal level. 6. Theories and theoretical concepts of social work that coexist with policy engagement in social work. Meetings with social workers engaged in policy influencing at different levels and in different forms.

Learning outcomes |
The aim of the second part of the course is to learn about the broader context of social workers' political engagement and also to get to know several social workers who are actively involved in influencing policy.

Student performance
Readiness for and active participation in classes. Presentation of a case of a social worker engaging in policy influencing (excluding politicians): who? What? How? What type of engagement? What factors influence that engagement? (with the exception of state level politicians and guests in the classroom). |
