Course content |
Basic characteristics of science and scientific research, basic concepts and definitions. Characteristics of qualitative, quantitative and mixed research. Research planning process. Phases and functions of research. The specifics of the formulation of the research problem, aims and research questions in qualitative research in social work. Characteristics of basic research designs in qualitative research. Specifics of the selection of the research set Methods of data collection and methods of their processing in qualitative research. Forming a conclusion and discussion in qualitative research. Validity and reliability in qualitative research. Software for data processing in qualitative research.

Learning outcomes |
Students will acquire and demonstrate skills in qualitative research. They can discuss the possibilities of scientific research using qualitative research, primarily in the field of social work, especially social work in the health field. Students will understand the theoretical foundations and acquire basic skills related to the formulation of aims and research questions and the choosing appropriate methods of data collection and methods of processing of data in the field of qualitative research.
Students will have basic theoretical knowledge in the field of qualitative research. Students will be able to formulate a research problem, research goals and questions from the point of view of qualitative research in the field of social work. Students will acquire and demonstrate knowledge of how to work with data in qualitative research. Students will be able to choose the right design for their research paper. Students can characterize the basic methods of obtaining and processing qualitative research data. |

Assessment methods and criteria |
Oral exam, Student performance
Basic requirements for successful completion of the course: 1. 100% attendance in classes. Any absence documented by a relevant document justifying the absence. 2. Active participation in seminars. 3. Successful completion of the oral exam. After the end of the lesson, the exam questions will be put into Moodle. Students willl register for the exam using the STAG information system and they respect the conditions set by the Palacký University study regulations. Students with specific educational needs will have course completion requirements adapted to their type of disability. The modification of the requirements may include an extension of time for written tests and papers, alteration of the point assessment in written papers, or changes to the classroom environment and necessary study aids. |
