Course content |
TOPICS: 1. The post-war period 1945-1959 - the beginning of the European Communities. Schumann plan 2. The founding treaties of the European Community, the European Union 3. Project of European Constitution, the Lisbon Treaty 4. EU citizenship and its associated rights and obligations related to the citizenship of a Member State 5. How the EU Functions and EU organizations 6. THE EUROPEAN UNION INTRODUCTION; CASE STUDIES 7. EU INSTITUTIONS INTRODUCTION; COURT OF JUSTICE OF EU 8. Development of language skills: Listening, reading, speaking, writing; practising terminology for specific purposes; 9. Grammatical and structural practice with respect to legal texts and specific areas of legal communication, in particular: overview of tenses and grammatical structures with emphasis on: tense overview, active and passive voice, gerund, infinitive, modal verbs, conditional sentences, sentence and compound sentences, word order, etc.; 10. Enhancement of specific skills: use of targeted lexis in meaningful context; 11. Development of writing and communication skills 12. Annotations of selected cases (focus on human rights) 13. Preparation of presentations (Powerpoint; Prezi, etc.) 14. Enhancement of oral skills (oral presentations with peered approach and recommendations on improvements)

Learning outcomes |
This course is divided in two terms. Students have a chance to become familiar not just with the theory of EU law, but also current events in Europe - this is neccesary to extend language skills and knowledge in the field of legal language. The teaching is in French and a good knowledge of French is necessary for a successful completion of this subject.
Students who have completed this subject gain knowledge and skills in the field of technical legal terminology from the European Union law and the European Community law and are able to discuss topics from these areas of law. |

Student performance
In order to get the credit it is essential that the students have a regular attendance in the scope set by the seminar leader. The students must also complete the tasks assigned by the teacher. |
