Course content
Topics: 1. + 2. Legal principles of EU law - Gend & Loos case / Costa E.N.E.L case 3. The internal market and fundamental freedoms 4. + 5. Limits to fundamental freedoms, prohibition of discrimination - Gebhard case 6. + 7. Liability of Member States for failure to transpose directives - Frankovich case 8. + 9 Free movement of goods - Cassis de Dijon case 10. Free movement of workers - van Duyn case 11. + 12 Freedom of establishment - Gebhard case

Learning outcomes
One term long and optional subject is aimed to extending of language and professional competence during the work with judgement of EJC and with the putting through the legal regulation and arguments to facts of the case and verdict. Condition of registration is exam of the special foreign language (german as the 1. or 2. foreign language).
Those students who complete this subject will acquire knowledge of technical legal terminology connected with the Law of EU as well as active and passive language skills in the area of authentic texts of the judicial decisions of the European Court of Justice (linguistic analysis of text and its simplification/ linguistic interpretation of legal information based on the text analyzed). The lessons are based on selected parts of rulings related to the specific topics discussed. Students will also deal with language as well as content tasks. The lessons are in German and are supposed to be performed as a workshop.
Prerequisites
Lessons will follow extending of passiv language competence - understanding of reading (various types and levels of reading text understanding) and active language competence of speaking - reproduction of the fundamental intent of verdict.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Analysis of linguistic

The course is intended for students with a very good knowledge of general German and for students who have successfully completed courses in legal German and elective courses in German. The seminar will be conducted in German, and active participation in the seminar and familiarity with the seminar topics are required. The condition for completing the course is the written analysis of one ECJ judgment based on questions.
