Course content |
Seminar will include: 6 hours of presentation introducing students to principles of detailed description on old prints, including characteristics of examples. During practical demonstration students will be introduced with form for cataloguing books (depending on institution for which books will be cataloguing, form in Microsoft Access or in Clavius or Tritius programs will be used). Definition of each item of the form will be demonstrated on examples of old prints and students will learn principles of description of book binding, for record of illustration graphic, for identification of different scripts. Students will also learn key terminology necessary of cataloguing. 20 (+ 25 of homework) hours of individual work of a student during which 50 volumes of old prints should be catalogued.

Learning outcomes |
Aim of the course is to give students knowledge for detailed cataloguing of old prints with necessary information so they can perform individually process collection of prints printed between 1500 and 1800, either in form in Microsoft Access or in Clavius or Tritius. Speciaf emphasis will be on description of characteristics of examples and determination of provenience of old prints.
Student knows terminology necessary for cataloguing of old scripts and is able to gain all the information for identification of work (works) and people connected, publisher, printer and more of particular example. Student understands woodcuts and graphics included in prints and is able to describe them, as characteristics of the exemplar (binding, notes from owner and reader and more). Student will be able to create a catalogue entry of an old print. |
Prerequisites |
Advantage of completion of course Cataloguing in present-day cataloguing systems (Clavius, Tritius) and at least basic experience in reading of old scripts.

Full attendance during introduction seminar. Handing in a work of cataloguing of 50 volumes of old prints. |
