Course content |
Seminar will include: 4 hours of lecture to introduce students to principles of cataloguing of prints, including examples characteristics. Students will get to know sources of description of particular example, differences between bibliographical and cataloguing records of the writing, including different forms of its representation, format and principles of record (MARC 21/RDA) including option of taking over of cataloguing records (from NK ČR, JIB, SK ČR or foreign databases). Students will work with name, subject and title authorities (with National authorities ČR, VIAF) and will learn about principles of description of binding and record of illustration graphics. Through demonstration students will get to know form in Clavius and Tritius and explanation of individual items in the form will be shown on examples. 22 (+ 25 hours) of individual work of a student during which 120 volumes should be catalogued. If interested, it is possible to do e-learning course of cataloguing of printed monographies in format MARC 21, offered by NK ČR (in that case student is obliged to catalogue only 80 prints).

Learning outcomes |
Aim of the course is to teach student to catalogue books in cataloguing format MARC 21 and principles RDA (to create minimal record RDA/MARC 21 for printed monographic sources). Student will learn how to work with Clavius and Lanius programs, which are the most used programs of smaller Czech libraries, and will practice their abilities on dozens of cataloguing titles. Student will also learn to use downloading of records and connecting information about particular cataloguing examples.
Orientation in terminology necessary for cataloguing of old prints and understanding of record RDA/MARC 21. Student will learn how to catalogue in Clavius and Lanius. |
