| Course content |
|
The seminar focuses on Church history. The Church was both an important political agent and an institution that shaped everyday life of the medieval man. It exerted its influence in all spheres of life. The aim of the seminar is to acquaint the students with the most important themes and milestones in the sphere of Church history. Themes: 1) The Church, its legalization and primary heresies, Fathers of the Church 2) Christianization, its significance, forms and development (incl. missions) 3) The papacy, its development; the formation of the Papal State up to the 11th century 4) Monasticism, its significance, milestones of its development, and crises 5) Culture in the Middle Ages 6) Heresies (from the 11th century on) 7) Crises of the papacy; schisms, their causes and development 8) Reformation
