Course content |
Historiography pf Early Modern Period. The aim of this course is to discuss features and main trends of the Czech as well as European historiography in the course of the 16th-18th century. Important topics of the course will be: An Analysis of some key works of early modern historiography and their critical interpretation (Václav Hájek of Libočany, Pavel Stránský, Mikuláš Dačický of Heslov, Bohuslav Balbín, William Camden, Marcin Kromer, Francois Hotman, David Hume, Voltaire etc.); The introduction into the philosophy of history. The discussion will be based on the analysis of historical and philosophical pieces of work. The course will be realized in a form of lectures (theoretical part) and seminars (discussion, text analysis). HF

The seminar is concerned with the early modern historiography and its typology. Students analyze and interpret the selected Czech and European historiographical texts (Vico, Stránský, Balbín, stadial historiography, Camden etc.)
Ability to use key works of early modern historiography for historical research. |
