Course content |
The course is part of the whole range of the seminars on the 19th-century history, which are mandatory for undergraduate students of history and archive studies. The attention will be paid to the fundametal phenomena which are crucial for understanding the cultural and social developments in the "long" 19th century - such as the enlightenment, romanticism, nationalism, colonialism, urbanisation, the rise of bourgeoisie, social issue etc. Also other selected topics will not be left aside, e.g. everyday life, faith and religiosity Every topic is based on the work with a primary source or a secondary literature which the student must read before coming to the class.

Learning outcomes |
The course aims to acquaint students with the basic phenomena and processes which are crucial for understanding cultural and social history of the 19th century.
Students will learn to understand the metamorphoses of European society and culture in the "long" 19th century and will get familiar with the Czech as well as foreign scholarly literature dealing with the social and cultural history of this period. |
Prerequisites |
Students are supposed to have basic factual knowledge of the 19th-century history. Students should have at least a passive knowledge of English.

Student performance, Didactic Test
Credit requirements: participation in the classes and class discussions, thourough studying of the reading requirements, presentation, written test at the end of the semester |
