Course content
The course deals with three main topics and aims to stress the most important related historical events. The topics are the following: 1. Science, education and information (social context of humanism, emergence of secular intellectuals, print and its impact on education, early modern science, origins of modern scientific method, information as a socioeconomic tool) 2. Economy and trade (Italian city-states and their economic impact, commercial revolution, early forms of economic association, trade companies: their origins, impact and development, early modern economic theories, classical economics) 3. Political theories and road to modern state (early modern crisis of nobility, road to state sovereignty, political theories of British empiricism and Enlightenment)

Learning outcomes
Seminars concentrate on the most important political events, culuture and ideological issues in the 18th century.
Students will learn more about history of the 18th century.
