Learning outcomes
The seminar examines the social, cultural, and gender history of the early modern period, with a particular focus on female rulership (queens and regents) and the major political, social, and cultural developments associated with their reigns. Particular emphasis is placed on the analysis of primary sources. Students will also engage with the core secondary literature on each topic. Active participation in seminar discussions is expected.
Students will gain an in-depth understanding of selected topics related to the period and the key scholarly literature associated with them.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Final project

Active participation in seminar discussions (including the reading of assigned texts), preparation of a bibliography on a selected topic, and no more than two absences.
