Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a comprehensive overview of the history of Great Britain in the early modern period (16th-18th centuries). The seminars will focus not only on the key political events that shaped the development of England and its position within the broader European and global context, but also on fostering a deeper understanding of the transformations in society, culture, and the economy. Special attention will be given to religious conflicts that influenced both domestic politics and foreign relations, changes in social structures, and the everyday life of different social groups. The course will also introduce students to England's emergence as a growing global power and to the cultural expressions of the period - from book culture and learning to art, architecture, and music. In the introductory part, major historiographical approaches and available primary source databases will be presented, enabling students to engage actively with historical materials.
A student will be well informed about basic terms concerning Early Modern England and able to put into context facts and events related to political, religious, cultural and economic history of the Great Britain.
Prerequisites
The basic knowledge of Early Modern history.
