|
Why is it important to work with original sources? Different types of medieval sources. Surviving, deposition and accessibility. Published editions of medieval sources. Medieval sources online - how to find them. What is important for the interpretation. How to translate sources correctly, elementary aids. How to interpret the sources.

Learning outcomes
|
The main goal of this course is practical use of medieval sources. Student is familiarized with main types of medieval sources and with the most important editions of published medieval sources. He knows how to find online both original and published sources. Problems with translation of the sources will be discussed as well as their correct interpretation, origin and function. This course is intended mainly for students writing their theses from the field of medieval or early modern history.
The student will be able to work independently with medieval sources. He will be able to find relevant sources and to interpret them correctly.

Prerequisites
|
Requirements for this course are good orientation in the medieval period and at least elementary knowledge of Latin.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Oral exam, Seminar Work
Active participation in lessons, max. 2 unexcused absences. The student will be prepared for the courses. The student will write an academic paper. Passing the final exam.
