Learning outcomes
The course is dealing with options avaible for computer processing of historical sources with emphasis on the creation of corpuses both annotated and unannotated. The students will work with freely available softwares, which will allow them to make corpuses for their own use (AntConc, SketchEngine, Xaira, Bonito/Manatee). We will focus on data gathering (including conversion of text materials to digital form), data mining and data interpretation. We will work mainly with history textbooks from The First Czechoslovak Republic and the period of Communist rule in Czechoslovakia. Other sources will include letters and travel books from earlier periods.

Prerequisites
The course is practical and the participants are assumed to have a working knowledge of computers. Philological skills and experience with linguistic corpuses is advantageous but not necessary.
