Course content
Lecture topics: 1. Achievements - orders and order decorations. 2. Achievements - insignias of secular and ecclesiastical officials. 3. Achievements - crowns, hats and ecclesiastical hats. 4. Achievements - supporters of coat of arms, slogans. 5. Achievement - mantles and pavilions. 6. Historical chronology - introduction, Roman dating. 7. Historical chronology - Church dating according to sanctoral. 8. Historical chronology - Church dating according to temporal. 9. Historical chronology - less usual ways of dating (bonone dating, cisioján). 10. Historical chronology - forms of dating formulas in historical sources. 11. Topic in accordance to the students interest. 12. Topic in accordance to the students interest. 13. Topic in accordance to the students interest. Seminars will focus on practical training of knowledge from the lectures and practising of reading historical texts written in gothic script.

Learning outcomes
Main aim is to introduce students of Art History to Auxilliary Historical Disciplines, especially those which they can use in their work. Summer semester is focused mainly on Heraldry (Achievements, ecclesiastical heraldry), medieval palaeography and basics in Historical chronology. Remaining lectures will focus on other AHD based on the interest of students (e.g. Epigraphy - description of inscriptions, introduction to Genealogy etc.).
Students will be able to read simple Czech text written in gothic scripts, o blazon full coat of arms including Achievements and to convert dates in Roman dating, bonone dating, cisioján and church dating to continuous dating (current way of dating).
Prerequisites
Knowledge of heraldry on the level of course Auxiliary Historical Disciplines - Art History 1.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Written exam

Active participation at least 90%, homework, written practical test (including transcription of Czech medieval text, blazon of two coat of arms and conversion of dates).
