Course content
Lecture, translation and analysis of selected Medieval and Renaissance texts including explanation of the texts in their cultural and historical context.

Learning outcomes
The seminar is intended for advanced students and its goal is to improve the students' abilities to work with Latin texts. The texts to be read are selected according to the students' needs; ideally, the students themselves bring texts they are working with in their diploma theses, or texts that fit into their area of interest. The texts are discussed comprehensively and students are guided to independent and creative work with the text in its translation, exposition and interpretation. The subject is suitable to supplement the subject Medieval Latin and Latin for Historians. The subject is innovated within the framework of the ESF OPVK project, reg. no. CZ 1.07/2.3.00/20.0026.
Ability to read and interprete Medieval and Renaissance Latin texts.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have knowledge of Latin equivalent to at least 4 semesters of Latin language or Latin reading and an active interest in translating Latin texts.
