Course content
Lectures: 1) Introduction to the study of stone industries and the history of research 2) Lithics in prehistory (overview from the Palaeolithic to the Eneolithic) 3) How to recognize lithics (raw materials, quarries) 4) How to recognise lithics (basic characteristics) 5-6) Type-technological analysis of lithics, chipping techniques and production chain (I) 7-8) Type-technological analysis of lithics, chipping techniques and production chain (II) 9) What the lithics tell us 10) How to analyse an assemblage of lithics (methodology of work) 11-12) An overview of the development of the polished stone industry (Paleolithic to Eneolithic) 13-14) Basics of documentation (classical and digital drawing, photographic illustration) Seminars and practices: The practice of methods of sorting assemblages of lithics and polished stone industry according to technical, technological and typological parameters. Continuous evaluations.

Learning outcomes
The main target is to familiarize students with stone artefacts (lithics and polished stone industry). Lithics: terminology, techniques of stone knapping, typology, description, overview of lithics' development, principles of paint, and other types of documentation. Polished stone industry: terminology, the raw spectrum, manufacturing process, morpho-typology, and an overview of the polished stone industry's development.
Practical knowledge of description, dating and determination of stone industry and draw documentation.
Prerequisites
Basic orientation in archaeological cultures in Central Europe.

Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam

Participation in the initial tutorial: 1 hour - introduction to the content, method of study and completion of the course. Participation in the continuous tutorial: 4 lectures and 2 exercises devoted to selected chapters of the stone industry and consultation of syntheses. Consultations: at least 2 consultations at the beginning and during the semester - to determine the progress of assignments. Additional ongoing consultations are possible depending on the student's needs. The student can choose the form of consultation with the lecturers, either in the form of a personal meeting, online meeting or via e-mail, etc. The control of study is solved by assigning tasks that the student will have to complete between consultations.
