Course content
Lectures: 1-4th (A) Raws and its characteristic (gold, silver, electron, copper, bronze, brass, iron and other types of metal), mining ang gaining of raws (B) Techniques of ore prospection, types and location of bearings, examples of prehistory mines (the Alps, the Carpathians, Mediterranean, Aegean Region, Near Orient), ore mining (copper, tin, gold, silver, iron). (C) Blacksmithing - metal production, chracters of metal (hardness, processing, melting point, ability of casting), techniques of metallurgy, example of prehistorical instalations for ore concretion (smelting furnaces, slag heaps etc.) , characteristic finds (stones, slag, nozzle etc.), exmples of prehistorical site with evidence of mnetal processing, characteristic of mining regions, ingots. (D) Metal processing - techniques of metal processing, tools for metal processing, finding contexts of prehistorical tools. (E) Basic typological literature of metal artifacts (F) Major groups of metal artifacts - tools, work requisites, weapons and armour, jars, part of clothes, jewellery and toilet article and next things with another functions - and its typological and functional classification from Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (Golec). 5-7th Major groups of metal artifacts (tools, work requisites, weapons and armour, jars, part of clothes, jewellery, toilet article, things with special function) and its typological and functional classification in Late and Final Bronze Age and Hallstat Period (Golec) 8-10th An overview of chronological development of main typological groups of metal artifacts according to functional classification (armour and equipment, jewellery, part of clothes, toilet article, work tools, coins, jars, thing for cult), typological systems. Direct or indirect clues of metal processing (ironmongery, metallurgy of colored metal, processing of gold and silver), from La Téne Period to Migration Period (Zeman). 11-13th Major groups of metal artifacts (tools, work requisites, weapon and armour, jars, part of clothes, jewellery, toilet article, things with special function) and its typological and functional classification from Medieval Period to Postmedieval Period (Šlézar). Seminars and exercises Seminars focus on practical example of selected group of metal artifacts according to historical period, discussion about functional possibilities, typological classification and status in chronological system.

Learning outcomes
Study focus on methods of gaining and processing of metal in history, typology of metal artifacts. Subject translate to overview of each metal product in achaelogical cultures. Students are familiar with draw documentation of metal artifacts.
Student knows methods of metal processing in history and typology of metal artifacts. Student is able to classicate artifacts to archaeological culture and dating its.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge from Prehistorical history, Protohistory and Medieval Period.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Didactic Test, Dialog

Written test (Colloquium), student participation at seminar, discharging tasks (Credit). (1) Excursion: 39 hours = 1,5 credits; (2) Individual study - preparation to exercise: 13 hours = 0,5 credit; (3) Preparation to atestation: 25 hours = 1 credit.
