Course content

Lecture MO1 covers the fundamental issues, research questions, and models for addressing them within the linguistic discipline of Morphology. The introductory units focus on the basic concepts of this discipline and on its intersections with related disciplines, such as Syntax and Lexicology. The second part of the lecture focuses on the morphological characteristics of the word class "verb". Content of the individual teaching units: 1. Introduction of the discipline "morphology", intersections with other disciplines 2. Definition of the term "word" 3. Morph, morpheme, allomorph 4. Morphological models 5. Problems of defining word types 6. Lexeme construction 7. Synthetic and analytic verb forms 8. Categories of Tempus 9. Categories of Modus (+ indirect speech) 10. Category Genus verbi 11. Aspectality (vid versus Aktionsart) 12. Morphosyntax of verbs

The aim of lecture MO1 is to provide students with insight into the fundamental issues, research questions, and models for addressing them within the linguistic discipline of Morphology. The introductory units focus on the basic concepts of this discipline and on its intersections with related fields, such as Syntax and Lexicology. The second part of the lecture focuses on the morphological characteristics of the word class "verb". Objectives of the individual teaching units: 1. Introduction to the discipline and overview of its intersections with other linguistic disciplines 2. Definition of the concept of "word" 3. Morph, morpheme, allomorph 4. Morphological models 5. Problems in defining word classes 6. Lexeme structure 7. Synthetic and analytic verb forms 8. The category of tense (Tempus) 9. The category of mood (Modus) (+ indirect speech) 10. The category of voice (Genus verbi) 11. Aspectuality (aspect vs. Aktionsart) 12. Morphosyntax of the verb
Upon completion of lecture MO1, students will have gained insight into the fundamental issues, research questions, and models for addressing them within the linguistic discipline of Morphology. They will become familiar with the basic concepts of this discipline and will gain an understanding of its intersections with related disciplines, such as Syntax and Lexicology. The second part of the lecture focuses on the morphological characteristics of the word class "verb". Written exam
Completion of all assignments, winter and summer semesters is completed with a written test.
