| Course content |
|
The Tristan theme is one of the most popular topics in medieval literature. The first German version was copmleted by Eilhart von Oberg(e), the most famous adaptation is Gottfried's fragmentary version. Two other texts are known in German (Ulrich von Türheim, Heinrich von Freiberg). There is also an anonymous Old Czech version. In the seminar we will deal with the main themes of the Gottfried version in particular and look at the reception. The seminar is designed in cooperation with the University of Oldenburg and includes a workshop in Oldenburg.

Interpretation of texts of a specific period, genre, writer, or on a particular subject or topic.
Students will gain insight into literature and literary criticism in selected periods as well as knowledge on topics dealt with in German language literature. A special emphasis is laid on the knowledge of the historical and cultural-historical context. The resulting competence also consists in an independent interpretation of a literary text and its examination in the literary historical as well as general historical, aesthetical, sociological context and in a comparative relation to the literature of the student's mother tongue/or the second subject. |

The seminar is intended for all students of the Palacký University. Students of other than German programmes who sign up for this "course" can choose any actual course from the modular selection of the Department for German studies that belongs to the "Literature" modulus, whether it is a lecture to particular periods of German literature from the Middle Ages to modern literature, or seminars to particular authors, works, problems or exercises in translation of fiction. Actual selection of all literary courses including the timetable details is to be found before the beginning of each term on the departmental web pages www.germanistika.cz.

Requirements for completion of the seminars will be specified by the individual tutors at the beginning of the course. The number of the credits awarded depends on the amount of work done during the seminar. It generally applies: 1 credit - reasonable participation, 2 credits - participation including contributions to discussion, 3 credits - successful oral presentation, 4 credits - successful oral presentation + written seminar paper. Credit requirements are subject to modification by the tutors. The requirement for this seminar is active participation, preparation of a presentation, reading of the text. Extra credits are given for participation in the seminar in Oldenburg. |
