Course content
Seminars providing an overview of various expressions of German/Austrian/Swiss culture, history, history of ideas, history of arts, social, political and media events. The seminars and exercises consist in an interactive presentation of these topics based on collective reading of the texts concerned. Examples of the topics of individual seminars: Selected topics concerning the history of German speaking countries Selected topics concerning the culture of German speaking countries Media Texts as cultural documents

Learning outcomes
Seminars providing an overview of various expressions of German/Austrian/Swiss culture, history, history of ideas, history of arts, social, political and media events. The seminars and exercises consist in an interactive presentation of these topics based on collective reading of the texts concerned.
The seminar aims at introducing students to the problems, issues and methods used in certain disciplines the knowledge of which is essential for the study of the German society and culture.
Prerequisites
The seminar is intended for all students of the Palacký University. Students of other than German studies programme who sign up for this "course" can choose any actual seminar/exercises/lecture from the modular selection of the Department for German studies that belongs to the "Culture and Society" modulus - formerly called "Conversational exercises". Actual selection of all "Conversational exercises" courses including the timetable details is to be found before the beginning of each term on the departmental web pages www.germanistika.cz. ALL COURSES ARE TAUGHT IN GERMAN LANGUAGE!

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Didactic Test, Seminar Work

Active participation in the seminar, a maximum of 2 unexcused absences, preparing a presentation or writing a term paper.
