The aim of the lecture is to provide students with a basic overview of the development of German-language literature between 1910 and 1945. The most important currents, authors and central works of this period are presented in their political and social context as well as changes in the field of media and the literary market. Topics of the lectures: 1. avant-garde - definition, dating, the individual 'isms' of the avant-garde. 2. futurism, its reception in Germany, the manifesto as a genre of the avant-garde 3. expressionism I (1.3) 4. expressionism II (8.3) 5. dada 6. literary reactions to the First World War 7. new objectivity I 8. new objectivity II 9. prague german literature (5.4) 10. exile I (12.4) 11. exile II (19.4) 12. literature in the Third Reich, internal emigration
Students will gain insight into literature and literary criticism in selected periods as well as knowledge on topics dealt with in German language literature. A special emphasis is laid on the knowledge of the historical and cultural-historical context. |

The lecture is intended for all students of the German department, but also for other students of UP. A good but necessary prerequisite is the completion of the lecture Einführung in die Geschichte der deutschsprachigen Literatur.
