Learning activities and teaching methods
Monologic Lecture(Interpretation, Training)
Learning outcomes
The aim of the seminar is to provide students with an understanding of language use in different contexts, literal and figurative meanings, implications, and presuppositions. Based on readings of key Texts in Analytic Philosophy (Austin, Searle, Grice), which also form the basis of linguistic pragmatics, participants will gain insight into speech act theory and the concept of conversational maxims.
The resulting competence consists of an overview of linguistic pragmatics and its terminology, an overview of its classical and more recent methods, and the ability to use theoretical knowledge in one's own empirical (and contrastive) research of language.
Prerequisites
The lecture is intended for all UP students, but especially for philology and translatology students. The knowledge of German language is required.

Assessment methods and criteria
Mark, Written exam

The lecture ends with a written exam. Students choose 5 out of 10 exam topics and answer questions on them.
