Course content
This lecture aims to present the fundamental goals, ways of thinking, and methods of linguistics. A particular focus will be placed on more modern approaches. The following topics are planned: 1) Goals of linguistics 2) Selected problematic cases (grammatical explanations; "controversial cases"; metaphors...) 3) Foundations of the philosophy of science 4) Language and norms 5) Structuralism as the Starting Point of Modern Linguistics 6) The Influence of Pragmatics 7) Modern Empiricism: Corpus Linguistics
