Historical topics have enjoyed great popularity among comic authors (not only) in recent years: be it major historical upheavals such as the First World War or the fall of the Berlin Wall, the 'atmosphere' and culture of a particular era such as the Weimar Republic or West Berlin during the Cold War, private fates of more or less well-known personalities, the comic offers an excellent opportunity to convey complex historical processes as well as individual fates 'vividly'. The aim of the seminar is to familiarise students with the basics of comics analysis and at the same time to impart basic knowledge about central moments of 20th century German history using selected comics as examples.
