Course content
Topics: Jews in Moravia Olomouc as a model of a provincial cultural centre Czech and German Olomouc theatre Personalities from the friends of Paul Engelmann(Max Zweig, Peter Engelmann, Bernhard Reich, Heinrich Groag, Anna Groag, Fridrich Pater) Olomouc branch of Jednota filozofická(J. L. Fischer, O.F. Babler)

Learning outcomes
The seminar is meant to be a cultural-historical probe into the environment of Jewish Olomouc of the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century proving that not only Prague was a place where three cultures: Czech, German and Jewish used to meet. The course will mainly be focused on the significant personalities of the Olomouc intelligentsia and culture. The participants of the course will also acquire knowledge of general Jewish tradition and the history of the Jews in Bohemia and Moravia.
Students will acquire overview of the general situation of the Jewish community in the Czech lands in the late 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries with the stress on the cultural and social development within the framework of the Moravian urban centre Olomouc. They will work with the texts of the Olomouc and regional authors and get to know the particularities of the German-Czech-Jewish cultural encounters in the provincial cultural centre. The course is a part of the Jews in Moravia module.
Prerequisites
The course is open for students of Jewish Studies and also for all interested students from different study programs.
