Learning outcomes |
The lecture has three main goals. 1. To introduce the participants to the most important theories of myth and mythology: What is a myth? How do 'modern' myths work? What function do myths have for the society that refers to them? ... 2. To present the most important gods and 'lower' figures as well as the cosmogony, cosmology and eschatology of Norse mythology. The most important sources through which these myths were handed down to us are also discussed. 3. The reception of Nordic mythology is also addressed, with the focus on German culture and politics of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The lecture aims at introducing students to the problems, issues and methods used in certain disciplines the knowledge of which is essential for the study of the German society and culture. Recently, a crucial role has been played by the discussed model "German studies as a cultural science". The resulting competence consists in: general knowledge of culture, history, art, thought etc. in German speaking countries. |

The lecture is intended for all students of the Palacký University, the lecture will be held in german.

Content of the lectures + compulsory reading in moodle. The sereies of lectures will be completed by a written exam. |
