Course content
|
Drawing on historical sources relating to key historical events, this seminar provides an overview of the tense coexistence of Czechs and Germans in Bohemia and Moravia. The seminar focuses primarily on the 19th and 20th centuries. However, as the nationalist arguments of both sides often referred to distant historical events, significant historical events from the Middle Ages and the early modern period will also be briefly examined. The seminar sessions are based on historical source texts, which are read and interpreted collectively following brief introductions to the historical and contemporary context and issues. Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the seminar is to provide students with a historical overview of the coexistence of Germans and Czechs in the Czech lands, with a particular focus on nationalist discourses and discourses centred on strategies of tolerance.
The seminar aims at introducing students to the problems, issues and methods used in certain disciplines the knowledge of which is essential for the study of the German society and culture.

Knowledge of German at least at B1 level.

Assessment methods and criteria
|
Student performance, Analysis of Creative works (Music, Pictorial,Literary), Dialog
Active participation in seminars, a final interview at the end of the term, a maximum of two unexcused absences.
