Course content
|
On the basis of general linguistics the lecture systematically presents the substance of contemporary German as a natural language. Introduction of linguistic terminology, methods and the most important theories of contemporary linguistics. Analysis of various aspects of language (theory of signs, theory of communication, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, etc.). Topics in Part 2: 1) Introduction: Language in Terms of Time, Space, and Society 2) Indo-European Languages / Germanic Languages 3) Old High German 4) Middle High German 5) Early New High German 6) Regional Varieties: Dialects - Colloquial Languages 7) Trends in Contemporary German 8) Language and Standard 9) Spoken and Written Language 10) Summary

Learning outcomes
|
This two-semester course provides students with an overview of the fundamental disciplines of German linguistics, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, text linguistics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics. Students will become familiar with the basic terminology and theories in each of these areas, which will provide them with the necessary foundation for further study. The course is taught in German.
Knowledge of linguistic terminology, methods and the most important theories of contemporary linguistics.
