Course content

Seminar Overview: B2 Language Competency Development Focused Competencies The seminar is designed to strengthen the following language skills at the B2 level: - Oral Expression: Enhancing the ability to articulate thoughts, express opinions, and participate actively in conversations and discussions. - Communicative Competence: Developing effective and contextually appropriate communication strategies for a variety of social and academic situations. - Listening Comprehension: Improving skills to accurately understand authentic, spoken language in everyday and formal contexts. - Presentation Skills: Building confidence and coherence in preparing and delivering structured oral presentations Instructional Methods A diverse, learner-centered approach is used to maximize engagement and practical language application: - Textbook-Based Work: Provides structured grammar and vocabulary practice, supports step-by-step progression, and offers context for further communicative activities. - Authentic Audio Materials: Exposure to real-life speech patterns, accents, and vocabulary through listening tasks focusing on interviews, podcasts, or radio segments. - Watching the News: Incorporates current events, develops comprehension of complex language, and promotes discussions on contemporary issues. - Roleplays: Simulated, scenario-based speaking exercises allow students to practice language functionally and creatively in safe and supportive settings. - Group and Plenary Discussions: Fosters collaborative learning, critical thinking, and spontaneous spoken interaction in both small groups and the full class forum. - Short Presentations: Regular opportunities for students to plan and deliver brief presentations, thus enhancing public speaking and organizational skills in the target language. - Minor Language Learning Games: Interactive and motivating activities reinforce key linguistic structures, vocabulary, and functional language use in a relaxed setting

Learning outcomes
The seminar / language exercise focuses on improving the following competencies in language level B1: oral expression, written expression, communicative competence, listening comprehension. The goal is perfect control of level B1 according to CEFR. Expected Outcomes By integrating these methods, participants will: - Communicate with increased accuracy and fluency in diverse situations. - Interpret and analyze authentic spoken language more effectively. - Gain greater confidence in expressing ideas orally, both in informal discussions and formal presentations. - Develop practical language skills necessary for academic, professional, and everyday communication at a B2 proficiency level.
The goal is perfect control of level B1 according to CEFR.
Prerequisites
Intended for first-year students of the bachelor study programs at the Department of German Studies and for other interested students.

Assessment methods and criteria
Student performance

Active participation in seminars, completion of all assignments. The requierements of the individual teachers might slightly differ, that is why it is highly recommended to pay attention to the introductory seminars.
